Hey Michael, I just have one question with this exercise. What exactly does it mean when you it says: "Be sure it is all right for you to heal the person and that they accept the healing"? I am unclear here as to whether it means that you need to ask them in person or if you can just have a conversation in your imagery with them and not in real life. What is your take on it? I'd be interested in knowing!

Peace, Meredith

I have attended the School of Practical Philosophy for a semester (10 weeks sections.) The information I learned, and the experience I gained were edifying! I wish I have more time to attend future classes or workshops.

Knowing that we have 5,000 receptors on our fingers tips. These receptors are specifically designed for the type of stimulation they perceive. Cold stimulation can be perceived by cold sensory receptors, and only vibration can be detected by vibration receptors. How sensitive we are to different types of stimulation contribute greatly to how we perceive the world. If one has poor eyesight, he or she might only focus on few details such as a rough outline of a person's shape. On the other hand, if one is oversensitive or overstimulate (like most of us living in the modern world,) we may avoid interacting with our environment and miss out on life's simple pleasures.

Try this simple exercise for your entertainment. Pay GREATLY attention when you wash your hands next time. Can you FEEL your finger prints? Can you feel the slippery soap making bubbles between the tiny molecules of your fingers?

I hope it is not too deep. :)

Basic Meditation Exercise (Samatha)

1. Sit down comfortably and close your eyes.
2. Let your body relax.
3. Let go of all outside things, of all your thinking and emotions, and let your mind relax.
4. Turn your attention to your abdomen and just observe (feel) the breathing process there (the rise and fall of the abdomen).
5. If your attention wanders off to other things, just bring it gently back to the breath.
6. Do this for 10 minutes.

Some questions to ask afterwards
1. What happened when I let go of everything and just observed my breathing?
Did my breath calm down by itself?
     Where did it lead to?
2. What are the benefits of this practice?
